The perfect year-round vegetarian recipe
The nice thing about this vegetarian recipe is you can make it all year round.
See, the main ingredient is peas. In the spring, when there are sweet peas all but spilling out of stalls at your farmer’s market, grab armloads and use those. The rest of the year, when the peas at Safeway are merely an anemic shadow of the fresh version – assuming you can even find any – use frozen. Because, luckily, frozen peas are almost as good as the fresh thing.
Then, give yourself, oh, three minutes to whip this up. And another five to enjoy it! Read more
Why 5WPR sucks
I am sick of PR firms wasting my time by sending me news releases that have nothing to do with vegetarianism.
Wasting my time and surely wasting their clients’ money.
So I am going to tell you the sad tale of 5WPR, the PR firm that spams me with more news releases, and 100% irrelevant news releases, than every other firm, combined.
Take today, for example. Today 5WPRs Marianna Nadelman sent me a release about Dr. Luis Navarro, The Director of The Vein Treatment Center (”The Father of Vein Removal”). What does vein removal (or even, in Marianna Nadelman’s own words, a “boob job”) have to do with vegetarianism? Damned if I know.
But this isn’t the first time Marianna Nadelman sent me a release about Dr. Luis Navarro. Oh no. Despite my asking her to take me off her list, she persists, no doubt charging the good doctor for this waste of time.
But this is just the smallest tip of the iceberg. To understand why I say 5WPR sucks, let me take you to the start of my relationship with this absurd PR firm. Read more

And the winner of the FREE All-Clad is …
Well, of course, first I have to thank everyone who entered. I got a ton of entries, so I am delighted you were all so supportive. So thank you!
Alas, I couldn’t give a prize to everyone, much as I dearly wanted to. But I did manage to draw a prize winner and I’m about to announce the winner’s name. But, before I do, I do want to say that everyone who entered was asked a bunch of questions from What was your worst or funniest kitchen disaster (and some of them are hysterical) to What are your best tips on going vegetarian.
Once I get a second to turn your answers into posts, I’ll post them so we all get at least a little win here.
Now, as for the winner of the All-Clad … Read more
Bill Maher vegetarian recipe
I tripped across this one and thought it would be a good one to tuck away to use for the holidays.
It’s healthy, of course, and delicious, and best of all (over the holidays, this is best of all!) fast.
And it would look so pretty next to a heaping plate of tofurky (if that’s your holiday thing)!
Who knew smart and funny Bill Maher could cook? Read more

Finally, a recipe for a lovely, non-alcoholic, refreshing drink
Here’s what I say. I say: To hell with winter. I know summer has long since slipped away. But sometimes, just sometimes, I don’t want it to go.
And when that happens. I make lemonade. But not just any lemonade. Oh no! I make raspberry lemonade.
And not just raspberry lemonade. I also made it with a special lemon curl I learned from a waiter who told me he summered on the coast and wintered in Arizona.
And I’m gonna teach you how to do both (not the summer / winter part; just the raspberry lemonade / lemon part).
And here’s the great news: You can make this recipe with frozen berries! Read more
Jamie’s Food Revolution and a vegetarian Jamie Oliver recipe
Given my recent rant about cookbooks with crappy recipes, you might wonder why I am reviewing another cookbook.
Even more, you might be wondering why I am giving you a recipe from it. A vegetarian recipe. A vegetarian recipe from Jamie Oliver, no less!
Well, you can’t paint all cookbooks bad because of one bad recipe. Besides, I adore cookbooks; the more the better. Read more
Vegetarian recipe for roasted garlic and garlic bread
Bread may just be the most perfect food in the world.
And the most perfect bread is garlic bread.
The problem is, I don’t want to use all that butter (yes, it is yummy, but it is also killer fattening). The solution? Roasted garlic. I have a recipe for it. And, good news, it is crazy easy!
The crazy thing is I had never made roasted garlic before I went to culinary school. I read about it, sure, but never made it.
This was one of the best parts of culinary school – getting to play with food! Read more
