Why 5WPR sucks

cat - blackI am sick of PR firms wasting my time by sending me news releases that have nothing to do with vegetarianism.

Wasting my time and surely wasting their clients’ money.

So I am going to tell you the sad tale of 5WPR, the PR firm that spams me with more news releases, and 100% irrelevant news releases, than every other firm, combined.

Take today, for example. Today 5WPRs Marianna Nadelman sent me a release about Dr. Luis Navarro, The Director of The Vein Treatment Center (”The Father of Vein Removal”). What does vein removal (or even, in Marianna Nadelman’s own words, a “boob job”) have to do with vegetarianism? Damned if I know.

But this isn’t the first time Marianna Nadelman sent me a release about Dr. Luis Navarro. Oh no. Despite my asking her to take me off her list, she persists, no doubt charging the good doctor for this waste of time.

But this is just the smallest tip of the iceberg. To understand why I say 5WPR sucks, let me take you to the start of my relationship with this absurd PR firm.

5WPR sucks because they spam
Founded by Ronn Torossian less than a decade ago, 5WPR already has a reputation here of spamming with news releases that have nothing to do with what I write about.

I know they have to bill their clients, but angering journalists and bloggers is not the right way.

See, 5WPR likes to send me release after release after release that has nothing to do with vegetarianism.

5WPR won’t stop spamming
Once the flood of useless releases became unmanageable, I contacted 5WPR and asked them to stop.

They did not.

So I contacted them again.

Still, they persisted.

I contacted them a third time. And did 5WPR stop spamming me? Alas, no.

Cisison won’t, or can’t, get 5WPR to stop spamming me
So I called Cision.

Cision is a company that manages a media database for PR firms. PR firms subscribe (for thousand$) and get access to the database. It’s a safe bet that 5WPR got my contact information from Cision.

Cision promised to contact 5WPR. Did they? All I know is 5WPR continued to spam me. So, I again contacted 5WPR. They refused to connect me to founder Ronn Torossian, forcing me to leave a message with his secretary. He never returned my call. And the flood of poorly written 5WPR news releases continued.

Once again, Cision won’t, or can’t, get 5WPR to stop spamming me
I contacted Cision a second time. They promised to have the sales person who dealt with 5WPR speak with them.

5WPR continues to spam me. Alas.

5WPR sucks
So now you can see why I think 5WPR sucks. And why I hold them up as a prime example of embarrassingly bad use of social media. Unlike most of the other PR firms I deal with.

Don’t be a 5WPR
The take-away here for PR firms is to stop spamming us. If you have trouble remembering this, I suggest you repeat this to yourself: Don’t be a 5WPR.

Because 5WPR sucks.

As for 5WPR clients, good luck. You’re going to need it.
