I just had to comment on the recipe I tried from here a few days ago, the lemon/asparagus over angel hair pasta. I took your advice and ad libbed a little adding basil (as I have it growing and add it to everything!) diced pretty fine tomatoes with the juice and added the pine nuts. The lemon flavor was tremendous, my husband loved it so much he made me make it the very next night!

No, no dumb questions. It's a good question; and it's true. But I suspect it is true to a smaller extent than we think. Okay, one coast might get their spring asparagus sooner than the other coast, but asparagus is a spring vegetable where ever you go. So the exact dates might differ, but the fruit and veg are still available in the same season, everywhere.

Where regionality is more of an issue is in variety. For example, you can get an amazing sour cherry (great pies) in the mid west, but not so much on the west coast. And east coast apples are gorgeous, but on the west coast, less so. The west coast has great olive oil, but no maple syrup. And so on.

It's all interesting stuff, isn't it?

Cheers!

I am really enjoying this series. Although, I do have a "dumb" question. One thing that puzzles me about books which are organized into seasonal recipes is this--- doesn't the produce that is available in season vary from region to region? In other words, aren't the items that are availabe in California in October different from those available in Maryland? If the produce which is available different from place to place, then don't you need to have a book that is geared specifically to your region?
